Abdul Majeed Waris Set to Join Trabzonspor After Lille Talks Collapse
Abdul Majeed Waris will not be joining Lille this summer, ending speculation over the Ghanaian striker’s future. Despite interest from the French club, negotiations faltered as Lille were unable to meet the demands set by Spartak Moscow, Waris’s current club.
Instead, Waris is set to showcase his goal-scoring talents in the Turkish Süper Lig with Trabzonspor. The Turkish side officially announced on Monday that they have reached an agreement with Spartak for the transfer. Following a successful medical examination, Waris is expected to sign a three-year contract with the club.
This move marks another significant signing for Trabzonspor under their manager Vahid Halilhodžić, who has been active in the transfer market. The club has recently bolstered its squad with several notable players, including African defenders Medjani and Belkalem, as well as Constant. They also secured Paraguayan striker Oscar Cardozo earlier in the window.
Furthermore, Trabzonspor announced the signing of Malian forward Mustapha Yatabaré, adding further firepower to their attacking options. The club is clearly focused on assembling a competitive squad under Halilhodžić’s guidance, with a mix of international experience and promising talent.
For Waris, the move to Turkey represents a fresh start after a period of uncertainty about his next destination. His pace and finishing ability will be crucial for Trabzonspor as they aim to improve their standing in the league.
