Maitland-Niles strikes in the 96th minute to deny Manchester United at Everton

Everton scored in the sixth minute of added time to earn a dramatic 2-2 draw against Manchester United on Sunday, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ late equaliser cancelling out Benjamin Sesko’s headed goal for the visitors.

The result leaves Manchester United with four points from the opening three rounds of the Premier League, placing them 11th in the table. Everton move on to five points and sit eighth.

Manchester United appeared to have secured victory after recovering the lead with only two minutes of normal time remaining. Luke Shaw delivered a precise cross into the area, and Sesko rose to head a powerful effort beyond the Everton goalkeeper.

However, Everton continued to push forward and were rewarded deep into stoppage time. Maitland-Niles found the net in the 90th minute plus six to level the contest for a second time and complete a remarkable finish.

The visitors had first taken the lead immediately after half-time. Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring in the 46th minute with a powerful strike from just outside the penalty area, giving Manchester United an early advantage in the second half.

Everton responded as the match approached its final stages. Tyrique George equalised in the 83rd minute with an impressive shot from inside the box, ensuring the home side remained in contention after falling behind.

Manchester United then appeared to have changed the outcome again through Sesko’s header, but Everton’s late effort meant neither side could claim all three points.

The 2-2 scoreline reflected a match in which both teams twice held the advantage at different stages of the contest. Manchester United led after Mbeumo’s long-range finish, before George brought Everton level. Sesko restored the visitors’ lead with Shaw’s assist, only for Maitland-Niles to produce the final intervention in the sixth minute of additional time.
