Bundesliga side FSV Mainz 05 have entered discussions with VfB Stuttgart over a potential move for Congolese forward Silas Mvumpa as they continue efforts to strengthen their attacking options.
The development follows Mainz’s confirmation of the signing of striker Phillip Tietz on Friday, January 2, with the club keen to add further firepower as they battle at the foot of the Bundesliga table.
According to Sky, negotiations are currently ongoing between Mainz and Stuttgart regarding the 27-year-old winger. Stuttgart are reportedly holding out for a €1.5 million transfer fee, but Mainz have so far only proposed performance-related bonuses to be paid in the summer, an offer that has been rejected by the Stuttgart hierarchy.
Silas is understood to be surplus to requirements at VfB Stuttgart, with the Congolese attacker no longer part of the club’s long-term plans.
He was recently linked with a move to Hannover 96, but the Bundesliga 2 side are said to be unable to meet the player’s salary demands, leaving Mainz as a potential destination as talks continue.
