MAICON REUNITES WITH MANCINI
Roberto Mancini, the Italian coach of Manchester City, can now celebrate as his persistent calls for reinforcements have been answered. Despite only welcoming Jack Rodwell (21 years old, formerly of Everton) in recent weeks, Mancini’s plea for additional support has been heeded. He can find reassurance in the arrival of a familiar face, Douglas Maicon (31 years old), with whom he had previously worked for two seasons at Inter Milan (2006-2008).
Inter Milan has officially confirmed Maicon’s departure on their website, stating, “Inter communicates that the formalities have been completed for the permanent transfer of defender Maicon to Manchester City.” The transfer is valued at approximately €4 million, although details regarding the contract duration and the Brazilian’s remuneration remain undisclosed.
While Mancini will undoubtedly appreciate this reinforcement, it also presents him with a challenge in assembling his teams. With the addition of Maicon at the right-back position, Mancini now faces the dilemma of choosing between the English international Micah Richards, the Argentine international Pablo Zabaleta, and the newly-acquired Brazilian, Maicon.
