Mahmoud Trezeguet has emerged as the leading scorer in the group stage of the 2025/26 CAF Champions League, netting five goals as his team, Al Ahly, secured qualification for the knockout rounds.
The Egyptian forward finished the group stage ahead of Abdelrazig Omer of Al-Hilal Omdurman and Ahmed Atef of Pyramids FC, who each scored four goals.
Their performances have set up an exciting race for the top scorer award as the tournament progresses.
“After Matchday 6, the race for the top scorer title remains wide open, with several players still in contention to influence the standings during the knockout stages,” organisers said in a tournament update.
Trezeguet’s five goals underline his key role in Al Ahly’s attacking line, making him one of the most influential players in the competition so far.
Meanwhile, third place is shared by Paul Bassène of RS Berkane and Aboubacar Diakité of Espérance de Tunis, each with three goals.
Other forwards who have scored twice during the group stage also remain in contention, keeping the top scorer race highly competitive.
All of the leading goal scorers are still active in the tournament, as their teams have progressed to the knockout phase, ensuring that the title for the competition’s leading marksman is far from decided.
The knockout stages promise further opportunities for these players to climb the scoring charts.
Fans and analysts will be watching closely to see whether Trezeguet can maintain his lead or if the chasing pack can overtake him in the coming rounds.
The CAF Champions League continues to deliver high drama both on the team and individual level as clubs vie for continental glory.
