Mahmoud Talaat: Egyptian midfielder joins Tanta SC on free transfer

Egyptian midfielder Mahmoud Talaat has joined Tanta SC on a free transfer from Wadi Degla. The 36-year-old defensive midfielder switches clubs ahead of the new campaign after three seasons with Degla.

Talaat, who plays primarily as a holding midfielder and favours his right foot, arrives at Tanta with a current market value of around €25,000. His move follows a spell at Wadi Degla that began in August 2023, when he signed from El Dakhlia.

During his time at Degla, Talaat featured regularly in the Egyptian Premier League, making 32 league appearances and playing more than 2,400 minutes. He also appeared in domestic cup competitions, including the Egypt Cup and the Egyptian League Cup, underlining his role as a consistent squad option.

The Cairo-born midfielder brings extensive top-flight experience, having spent the past seasons competing in Egypt’s leading competitions. His minutes across league, cup and a relegation play-off highlight his familiarity with high-pressure fixtures and survival battles.

Tanta SC have moved to strengthen the spine of their team with a player whose profile is firmly that of a specialist defensive midfielder, capable of screening the back line and managing games from deeper areas. Talaat joins immediately following the expiry of his time at Wadi Degla and is registered as a Tanta SC player from 14 July 2026.
