Mahmoud Khatib stepped back into Al Ahly’s camp on Monday, showing his commitment to the club despite recently requesting time away for medical treatment.

His presence came just a day after the Cairo giants were held to a 1-1 draw with Enppi, a result that left fans frustrated and pushed the team down to 15th place after six rounds.

Although Al Ahly’s board rejected Khatib’s request to step down, noting that elections are set for the end of October, the chairman wasted no time in making his voice heard. A source told Kooora that he went straight to the club’s headquarters in Gezira to join the planning committee meeting. The discussions centered on appointing a new foreign coach to replace Jose Riveiro.

“Al-Khatib attended the planning committee meeting to decide on the new foreign coach to succeed Jose Riveiro,” the source added.

Khatib also visited the training ground at Mokhtar El-Tetsh Stadium, where he met the players in a long session filled with firm words, demanding more responsibility and stronger performances.
