Mahmoud Hamdy El-Wensh finds himself at the center of Zamalek’s struggles after his sending off played a part in their first league defeat of the season.
The defender’s dismissal has not only hurt the team on the pitch but has also led to disciplinary action from the club.
Zamalek’s football director, Abdel Nasser Mohamed, confirmed that the player will be fined under the club’s internal rules. The decision follows El-Wensh’s red card in the 72nd minute against Wadi Degla when he struck an opponent off the ball.
The incident left Zamalek short-handed and struggling to contain their opponents. Wadi Degla capitalized on the advantage to secure a 2-1 victory on Sunday evening in the fifth round of the Egyptian Premier League.
As a result, El-Wensh will miss the next game against Al-Masry. The suspension comes at a difficult time, with Zamalek slipping from the top of the table. They now sit second with 10 points, trailing Al-Masry by just one.
The defender’s absence leaves a gap in the squad, and his return will be closely watched by the fans.
