Zamalek defender Mahmoud Hamdy has confirmed he held talks with rivals Al Ahly before deciding to stay loyal to the White Knights by renewing his contract.
Speaking on television, Hamdy shared that several clubs showed interest in him, including Al Ahly, but he chose to remain after speaking with club president Hussein Labib.
Hamdy said Labib was focused on extending deals for nine players whose contracts were about to expire. He revealed that once he informed the club president of the offers he’d received, Labib promised to prioritise his contract renewal.
The experienced defender also dismissed claims that he was paid 60 or 80 million pounds as part of the new deal, calling those rumours false.
“I have a great history with the club, and I am honoured to be at Zamalek,” Hamdy said. He noted that his injury didn’t change Zamalek’s stance, which deepened his loyalty.
Regarding teammate Ahmed Sayed Zizo, Hamdy said he wasn’t aware of any negotiations with Al Ahly but understands fans’ frustration, given Zizo’s importance to the club.
