Mahmoud El-Khatib’s leadership stays as Al Ahly board rejects his exit
Mahmoud El-Khatib’s wish to step away from Al-Ahly has been firmly dismissed by the club’s board of directors, who insist the president remains vital to the Red Devils’ future.
On Friday, El-Khatib released an official statement confirming he would not contest the upcoming elections, explaining that he wanted to follow medical advice and prioritize his health. He described his decision as one made with both personal reflection and necessity.
The Al-Ahly board responded swiftly, declaring their refusal to accept his departure now or in the future. They highlighted his unmatched service spanning over fifty years, first as a player, then as treasurer, vice president, and finally president. They praised his sacrifices and relentless drive that propelled Al-Ahly to historic sporting, financial, and infrastructural achievements.
The statement noted that El-Khatib has carried heavy pressure throughout his leadership while always honoring his promises to fans and the general assembly. While they respected his right to rest and recover, they stressed that his vision is crucial at this stage.
The board closed by assuring supporters that El-Khatib will remain a symbol of loyalty, sacrifice, and inspiration for Al-Ahly.
