Mahmoud El Khatib, president of Al Ahly SC and one of the most beloved figures in the club’s history, has officially announced that he will not contest in the upcoming elections.

His decision comes after doctors strongly advised him to step back from the intense responsibilities of leading the African giants.

In his statement, El Khatib reflected on his journey. “Eight years ago, we pledged to the fans and members of Al-Ahly Club to work with sincerity, effort, and vision to keep Al-Ahly at the top, with its history, principles, and championships, and to continuously develop its facilities and member services.”

He also praised the teamwork that helped Al Ahly grow. “Over the course of two electoral terms, I have had the honor of chairing the board of directors and working with you to advance our club at all levels.”

El Khatib admitted that despite several attempts to step down, he stayed on to serve the club. Now, with elections close, he says he must prioritize his health.

He urged members to attend the general assembly next Friday, offering his support as Al Ahly moves forward.
