Mahmoud Ashour has stepped down from the referees committee of the Egyptian Football Association after deciding to pursue a new opportunity as a refereeing analyst with Egyptian sports channel ON Sport.
Ashour, who has been part of the committee headed by Essam Abdel Fattah, is understood to have informed the relevant authorities of his decision to leave his position.
The move brings an end to his involvement with the referees committee as he prepares to begin a new chapter in his career away from active refereeing administration.
Ashour is set to join the refereeing analysts team at ON Sport, where his extensive experience and knowledge of the game are expected to strengthen the channel’s coverage of refereeing decisions and controversial incidents.
His move to television is regarded as a significant opportunity, particularly given his background and experience in Egyptian and international refereeing.
The Egyptian Football Association will now have to appoint a replacement for Ashour on the referees committee, with Abdel Fattah expected to continue overseeing the body during the transition.
Ashour’s departure comes as the Egyptian football authorities continue their efforts to develop and improve the country’s refereeing system, while his move into television analysis will allow him to remain closely involved in the game.
The former referee is expected to use his expertise to provide technical analysis of refereeing decisions and offer insight into some of the most debated incidents in Egyptian football.
