Mahir Khaled impresses during Badalona trial before Egypt Under-20 call-up

Mahir Khaled has made a strong impression during a trial period with Spanish club Badalona before joining Egypt’s youth national team for the North Africa tournament.

The 2007-born right-back, who plays for Ceramica Cleopatra, was invited to spend time with Badalona after producing a series of impressive performances for both his club and Egypt’s 2007 age-group national team.

Khaled has featured in two matches for the Spanish side and attracted attention with his performances, scoring one goal during the trial.

Although he normally operates at right-back, the 17-year-old was used on the opposite flank by Badalona. He adapted to the left-back position and performed well there, underlining his versatility during his time in Spain.

Badalona requested the trial after monitoring Khaled’s displays for Ceramica Cleopatra and Egypt’s team for players born in 2007. His performances during the two matches gave the defender an opportunity to demonstrate that he could contribute in more than one defensive role.

His period with the Spanish club will now be followed by an international assignment. Ceramica Cleopatra have received a call-up for Khaled from Egypt’s 2007 youth national team, managed by Wael Riad.

The Egypt squad will take part in the North Africa tournament, which is scheduled to be held in Egypt. The competition serves as a qualifying event for the Africa Cup of Nations youth tournament.

Khaled is due to return from Spain on 31 August and will report to the Egypt camp on 1 September.

The timing means his spell with Badalona will conclude immediately before he joins the national team. He will arrive in camp having played two matches in Spain, scored once and gained experience in an unfamiliar position on the left side of defence.

For Ceramica Cleopatra, the call-up reflects the progress made by a player who has attracted recognition at both club and international youth level. For Khaled, the trial has also provided an opportunity to test himself outside Egypt and show his ability to adjust to different demands on the pitch.

His main position remains right-back, but his successful appearance at left-back for Badalona adds another dimension to his profile as he prepares to join Wael Riad’s squad for the North Africa tournament.
