Maher Kanzari hails title triumph as Espérance clinch 34th Tunisian League crown
Espérance Sportive de Tunis sealed their 34th domestic league title on Sunday, prompting head coach Maher Kanzari to reflect with pride on a campaign that ended in triumph with a game to spare.
Following a comprehensive win over Olympique de Béja, Kanzari addressed the press, visibly delighted with the outcome of a season that saw his team recover from a tight title race to finish four points ahead of US Monastir and twelve ahead of Club Africain.
“Thank God. I jumped on the bandwagon in a difficult period. We were tied with Union Sportive Monastirienne. We are now four points ahead of US Monastir. We can, moreover, widen the gap to 7 points since we have one day left to play. We are also 12 points ahead of Club Africain,” Kanzari told journalists with a wide smile.
The former Tunisia international, who took charge of the “blood and gold” during a tense phase of the season, managed to guide Espérance through a critical stretch of fixtures, winning each one to reassert the club’s dominance in Tunisian football.
“We won all our matches and that’s very important. I did what I had to do. A challenge accepted, thank God. And it’s always a special feeling to win a title with Espérance,” he added.
This marks Kanzari’s first league title as head coach, a significant personal milestone in a coaching career that has seen him rise through the ranks within Tunisian football.
His arrival came at a time when the title race appeared finely poised, but a string of decisive victories under his leadership tilted the balance firmly in Espérance’s favour.
Espérance’s championship win underscores their enduring status as a powerhouse in Tunisian football.
With one matchday still to go, the club has not only reclaimed the trophy but done so with room to spare, reaffirming their pedigree and Kanzari’s tactical acumen.
While attention now turns to the final fixture of the season, for Kanzari and his players, the job is already done — the challenge met, and the glory secured.
