Diawara, 19, joined Lyon last summer on a free transfer, arriving with high expectations following his development at Paris Saint-Germain.
However, his opportunities at the Ligue 1 side have been limited. This season, he has played just 127 minutes across five matches.
Despite being under contract until June 2028 and holding a market value of €3 million, his departure is being actively considered as part of Lyon’s strategy to address their budgetary deficit.
The young midfielder’s annual salary of €400,000 and lack of significant playing time may have contributed to the club’s decision.
Yet, the situation marks a surprising turn of events, given the club’s earlier stance.
Just a few months ago, Africafoot reported that Lyon had turned down multiple offers for Diawara, demonstrating their belief in his potential.

Diawara’s talent has not gone unnoticed. During the summer transfer window, FC Nantes reportedly approached Lyon with a loan offer including a purchase option, but the proposal was declined.
The decision to keep him at the time indicated Lyon’s plans to develop the player further, but the club’s current financial troubles may have forced a reassessment.
