Mahala Opoku is being linked with a move from CF Montréal to Israeli side Hapoel Haifa, according to transfer data compiled on 9 February 2026.
The Ghanaian right winger, currently valued at €600,000 on Transfermarkt, is the subject of speculation over a potential switch from Major League Soccer to the Israeli top flight, Ligat ha’Al. The reported probability of the move is listed only as “?”, underlining that talks, if any, are at a very early and uncertain stage. With no contract expiry date publicly recorded for Opoku at Montréal, observers have also noted the possibility that his situation could evolve into free-agent status, which would significantly alter the dynamics of any deal.
Montréal, who compete in MLS, signed Opoku from Los Angeles FC in July 2023 after the winger had emerged in North America following his move from Ghanaian outfit Attram de Visser Soccer Academy to LAFC in October 2020. Since then he has built a reputation as a left-footed attacker capable of operating from the right flank, wearing the No 7 shirt for the Canadian club.
Recent form has been viewed through the prism of a steadily declining market valuation. After peaking at €2.5m during his LAFC days in late 2022 and holding that figure into his early months at Montréal in 2023, Opoku’s value has gradually dropped, reaching €600k by December 2025. That trend has fuelled debate over whether a move to a different league, such as Ligat ha’Al, could offer him a platform to relaunch his career.
Born in Accra on 13 July 2001, the 1.72m winger has already experienced two distinct football cultures in Ghana and the United States. A switch to Israel would add a third, potentially reshaping his trajectory and giving Hapoel Haifa a relatively low-cost wide option if the rumoured transfer ultimately materialises.
