Morocco’s Maghreb de Fès begin search for new president after Mohamed Bouzoubaa’s exit

Moroccan club Maghreb de Fès have opened applications for candidates seeking to become their next president following Mohamed Bouzoubaa’s resignation.

The club’s football association has scheduled an electoral general assembly for 10 October, when members will vote for a new president and executive board through a list-based system.

Candidates must submit their applications to the club’s administration at Saadiens Stadium in Fès’ Ville Nouvelle district by 16:00 on Friday, 2 October.

The electoral meeting will also consider the club’s sporting and financial reports, review the auditor’s findings and formally address the resignation of the current executive board.

Candidate programmes to be presented

Approved candidate lists will be presented to eligible members alongside their respective programmes before voting takes place.

Maghreb de Fès said the venue and starting time for the 10 October assembly will be announced at a later date.

Only members who satisfy the association’s legal and statutory requirements and have completed their administrative and financial obligations will be allowed to participate in the election.

The vote will determine who formally succeeds Bouzoubaa and lead the club’s executive board for its next administrative term.

Bouzoubaa to remain involved with Maghreb de Fès

Bouzoubaa resigned as president of the club’s sporting association on 17 September, citing personal reasons.

His departure from the presidency will not end his involvement with the Fès club, however.

He has confirmed that he will continue supporting Maghreb de Fès as its leading investor through the sports company, which remains headed by Omar Bennis.

Bouzoubaa has also expressed confidence that the club’s management can continue implementing its development project.

Benjelloun takes interim charge

Following Bouzoubaa’s resignation, first vice-president Ali Benjelloun assumed the presidency on an interim basis in accordance with Article 23 of the association’s statutes.

The club’s Council of Elders has also proposed Bouzoubaa as its president in recognition of his continued involvement with Maghreb de Fès.

Bouzoubaa and members of the council had previously called for support for the candidate list expected to be presented by Benjelloun at the electoral assembly.

The 10 October vote will therefore determine the club’s next permanent president and the executive team that will oversee Maghreb de Fès’ next administrative period.
