Udinese slip to Parma despite strong display from Maduka Okoye
Nigeria international Maduka Okoye saw his pursuit of a tenth Serie A clean sheet halted as Udinese were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Parma on Saturday.
Udinese entered the match aiming to strengthen their position in the top half of the table, with Okoye playing a central role in their defensive efforts.
The goalkeeper delivered a series of important saves throughout the game, keeping his side in contention for long periods.
Despite his contributions, the match was ultimately decided shortly after the interval. Parma found the breakthrough in the 51st minute when substitute Nesta Elphege made an immediate impact, scoring the only goal of the contest to give the visitors the advantage.
The goal proved decisive, leaving Udinese unable to respond despite their attempts to recover. Okoye, who completed the full 90 minutes, could do little to prevent the strike that ended his clean sheet run.
His performance, however, remained a key factor in keeping the scoreline narrow until the final whistle.
According to reports, the Nigerian goalkeeper made several crucial interventions during the match, underlining his importance to the team’s defensive structure.
His efforts ensured Udinese stayed competitive, even as Parma gradually gained control following their goal.
The defeat marks Okoye’s 24th league appearance of the season. He has now conceded 26 goals while recording nine clean sheets, just short of reaching double figures.
In terms of the standings, the result leaves Udinese in 11th place with 43 points. Parma, meanwhile, benefited from the victory, moving up to 13th with 39 points and closing the gap in the mid-table battle.
While the outcome ended Udinese’s immediate ambitions of consolidating their position, Okoye’s display once again highlighted his reliability between the posts.
However, it was Parma’s decisive moment, sparked by a substitute, that ultimately shaped the result.
