Madjid Bougherra Set for Move Away from Lekhwiya, Eyes Potential Return to England

Algerian international Madjid Bougherra has confirmed he will be leaving Lekhwiya at the end of the season, with the veteran defender indicating that a move to another club in Qatar is a possibility. Speaking to Lebuteur, Bougherra revealed that discussions with the club’s president had led to the decision to part ways, with Qatar’s foreign player regulations playing a key role in the move.

“Yes, it’s over, I met with the president. You know, they wanted to keep me, but since the law in Qatar requires only three foreign professionals in a team, it wasn’t possible, especially since we’re going to sign three new young players,” Bougherra explained. The defender, who has been a key figure for Lekhwiya, will now look for a new challenge after his time at the club.

In a gesture of appreciation, Lekhwiya has planned a special ceremony to honor Bougherra for his contributions during his time at the club. The 37-year-old expressed his gratitude for the recognition, saying, “There will be a special ceremony for me. My leaders want to thank me for everything I’ve given to the club. It’s very respectful of them, and I want to thank them in return.”

While Bougherra’s departure from Lekhwiya is confirmed, his next destination remains uncertain. The defender has stated that he is currently in advanced talks with a Qatari club, but other offers are also on the table. “I will think about it calmly. The data has changed. For the moment, I am in advanced discussions with a club in Qatar and other teams also want me here. So the priority is to listen to what I am offered here in Qatar, after that it is true that there are some contacts in England that I will also study,” he revealed.

Bougherra, who previously had a successful stint in England with Rangers in Scotland, may yet return to the UK, with several clubs reportedly showing interest. As the defender weighs his options, his next move is set to be one of the more intriguing storylines of the upcoming transfer window.
