Madjid Bougherra is set to leave Lekhwiya and seek a new club for the upcoming season. The Algerian international defender confirmed his departure from the Qatari club due to the league’s restriction on the number of foreign players allowed in each team.
“I met the president, and we mutually agreed on my departure,” Bougherra told Lebuteur. “The Qatari law limits teams to only three foreign professionals, and with the signing of three new young players, it wasn’t possible for me to stay.”
Before his exit, Lekhwiya has planned a special ceremony to honor Bougherra for his contributions to the club: “The club wants to thank me for everything I’ve given them. I deeply appreciate this gesture and would like to express my gratitude to them as well.”
As for his next destination, Bougherra is weighing his options: “I will take my time to decide. I’m in advanced talks with a Qatari club, but there are also interests from English clubs that I need to consider.”
