Madjid Bougherra names bold Algeria A squad with fresh faces for October friendlies

Madjid Bougherra has announced a refreshed Algeria A squad featuring several new names ahead of the team’s two October friendlies against Palestine.

The matches, set for 9 and 13 October in Annaba, form part of Algeria’s preparations to defend its Arab Cup crown.

Bougherra has summoned 25 players from across Arab leagues alongside three Europe-based footballers, reflecting his intention to broaden the team’s talent pool.

With the competition’s regulations permitting the inclusion of players from Europe and North America, the coach has taken full advantage by integrating 12 new faces from those regions.

Among the most eye-catching selections is Rayan Kolli of Queens Park Rangers.

The London-based forward receives his first call-up to Algeria’s A team, a milestone that could pave the way for a future with the senior national side.

Kolli’s inclusion is widely regarded as one of the standout decisions in Bougherra’s latest list.

Another notable addition is Kelian Belazzoug, the 1.97m Stade Rennais goalkeeper who now formally joins Algeria’s project.

His selection underlines Bougherra’s focus on securing the national commitment of promising talents at an early stage.

The coach has also retained Rafik Guitane of Desportivo Estoril in Portugal, Rayane Yesli from Canadian outfit HFX Wanderers, and Russian-based players Houssem Mrizegue and Mohamed Azzi.

In addition, prolific striker Adil Boulbina, last season’s top scorer in the Algerian league and now playing for Al-Duhail in Qatar, is included once again.

This blend of domestic stalwarts and emerging international prospects signals a clear strategy.

Bougherra is prioritising youth development and long-term integration into the Algerian system while maintaining a competitive edge for upcoming tournaments.

The 2025 Arab Cup, which kicks off for Algeria on 3 December, looms large over these decisions.

By unveiling a squad that mixes experience with fresh energy, Bougherra is setting out his vision for a future-proof Algeria A team.

The October friendlies in Annaba will offer the new recruits a valuable opportunity to adapt to the national setup and stake their claims for a more permanent role as Algeria looks to build on its recent success and cement its dominance on the Arab football stage.
