Besiktas and Philadelphia Eye Algeria Captain Madjid Bougherra
Algerian national team captain Madjid Bougherra has emerged as a target for several clubs as his contract with Qatari side Lekhwiya comes to an end. According to France Football, Turkish giants Besiktas Istanbul are keen on signing the experienced defender ahead of their 2014–15 Europa League campaign.
Besiktas had reportedly been tracking the 31-year-old centre-back since the previous winter transfer window and may now make their move, taking advantage of his free-agent status after the World Cup.
Bougherra, who has spent the last three seasons in the Qatari league, is also attracting interest from Major League Soccer, with Philadelphia Union said to be monitoring his situation closely.
With his contract officially expired, Bougherra is free to negotiate his next move, and his leadership on and off the pitch could make him a valuable asset for any club looking to bolster its defense. His future, however, will likely be decided following Algeria’s campaign in Brazil, where he is expected to play a key role.
