Macauley Bonne has completed a move to Billericay Town, ending his spell without a club and adding proven Football League experience to the non-league side’s forward line. The 30-year-old centre-forward joins on a free transfer from free agency, with his latest market value listed at €100k. His contract with Billericay Town runs from 2026-02-10 to 2027-06-30.
The Zimbabwe- and England-qualified striker arrives after a brief period unattached following his departure from Maldon & Tiptree FC earlier in the same season. Bonne had joined Maldon & Tiptree from free agency during the 25/26 campaign before once again becoming a free agent and now signing permanently for Billericay Town. No transfer fee is involved in the switch, consistent with his status as a free agent at the time of the agreement.
Bonne’s move keeps him in England rather than returning to his birth nation’s domestic game, continuing a career spent entirely in the English system. Billericay Town, who compete in the English pyramid, have secured a forward whose experience spans from the EFL Championship down through the lower leagues and into non-league football. For the player, it is another chance to re-establish himself after a series of short-term stays and loans in recent seasons.
Born in Ipswich and standing 1.80m tall, Bonne has been deployed primarily as a centre-forward throughout his career, operating through the middle as an out-and-out striker. He progressed from Colchester United’s youth ranks to the senior side, then moved on to Leyton Orient, where he first built a reputation as a reliable goalscorer in the lower leagues. That form paved the way for a transfer to Charlton Athletic, followed by a high-profile move to Queens Park Rangers, where his market value once peaked at €2m during his time in the Championship.
Subsequent years saw Bonne circulate between clubs via permanent moves and loans, including spells at Ipswich Town, Gillingham FC, Cambridge United and Southend United. More recently, his value declined from those heights to the current €100k, reflecting both his drop down the divisions and the short-term nature of his contracts. A stint at Southend United was followed by free agency, then Maldon & Tiptree FC, and now Billericay Town.
Internationally, Bonne holds dual nationality with Zimbabwe and England. His career path, however, has remained rooted in the English game, meaning he continues to compete abroad relative to his Zimbabwean nationality, pursuing opportunities in England rather than in his other home country. His latest move reinforces that pattern, keeping him in familiar surroundings within the English football structure.
The free transfer to Billericay Town offers Bonne regular football and the possibility of reigniting a once-surging career. For the club, it is a low-risk addition of a forward with extensive experience across multiple levels of English football. As his new contract runs its course through 2027-06-30, his performances in Billericay colours will determine whether this step becomes a platform for another rise up the divisions or a long-term home in non-league football.
