M. Lupeni sign Ghana goalkeeper Obed Ankrah after swift Inter Stars Sb. switch

Ghana goalkeeper Obed Ankrah has joined Romanian club M. Lupeni from Inter Stars Sb. on a free transfer.

The 22-year-old’s move was completed on 24 August 2026, just two weeks after he left FC Hermannstadt to join Inter Stars Sb. without a fee. Ankrah’s latest switch marks another change of club during a busy period in his career.

Ankrah returned to FC Hermannstadt at the end of the 2025-26 season after a loan spell with Inter Stars Sb. He had initially moved to Inter Stars on loan on 9 February 2026, before returning to Hermannstadt when that arrangement ended on 30 June.

His time at Hermannstadt followed another temporary move, with the goalkeeper spending part of the 2025-26 campaign on loan at CSC Selimbar. That spell began on 31 July 2025 and concluded with his return to Hermannstadt on 1 January 2026.

Ankrah joined Hermannstadt from African Talent in January 2025 in a €75,000 transfer. The move was his first recorded switch involving a fee, before his subsequent changes of club were completed through loan arrangements or free transfers.

The goalkeeper now moves to M. Lupeni after his short stay at Inter Stars Sb., adding another chapter to a career that has included clubs in Romania and a series of changes across the past two seasons. His position is recorded as goalkeeper, while Ghana is his listed nationality.

The transfer also represents Ankrah’s third club move in 2026. He began the year with Hermannstadt after returning from CSC Selimbar, later joined Inter Stars Sb. on loan, and then returned to Hermannstadt before making that move permanent on a free transfer in August.

Inter Stars Sb. and M. Lupeni have now completed successive free transfers involving Ankrah, with the Ghanaian moving between the two clubs after his brief spell at Inter Stars.

Ankrah has completed his free transfer from Inter Stars Sb. to M. Lupeni.
