SAMUEL UMTITI: “LYON CAN MAKE PSG WAIT UNTIL THE END”
With just four matches remaining in the Ligue 1 season, Paris Saint-Germain sits atop the table following a routine win over Metz, marking their seventh consecutive league victory. But far from being discouraged, Samuel Umtiti remains optimistic about Olympique Lyonnais’ chances.
In an interview with Le Progrès, the OL defender admitted that PSG’s victory was expected but insisted that the title race isn’t over yet:
“I expected this result because PSG are above Metz and were also playing at home. When the Parisians play seriously like they did in their last two matches, they are very strong.”
Still, Umtiti pointed out that PSG’s remaining fixtures might prove tricky:
“They will have some tough matches to play again, in Nantes where it’s never easy to win, against Guingamp who play well against the big teams, and in Montpellier.”
Meanwhile, Lyon — just three points behind — also has a relatively easier run-in:
“There are still 12 points to take, and 3 points behind is not a lot. We must first ensure direct qualification for the Champions League. Our other ambition will be to push PSG to fight until the end. We have the means, at least to make them wait!”
With fixtures against Caen and Rennes among Lyon’s remaining games, the race for the Ligue 1 crown might just go down to the wire.
