Lyon tracking Anderlecht and Morocco defender Ali Maamar

Olympique Lyonnais are monitoring Anderlecht right-back Ali Maamar after being impressed by the 21-year-old during the clubs’ Europa League meetings.

The Morocco international has gradually established himself with the Belgian side, attracting attention from Lyon’s recruitment team. According to Actu Foot Maroc, the French club are considering a move for Maamar during the next transfer window.

Africafoot previously reported exclusively that Lyon had identified the Moroccan prospect earlier this summer.

Lyon face competition for the defender, with several English clubs also understood to have made enquiries about his situation. Maamar is regarded as one of Anderlecht’s most promising young players, and interest in his services is growing.

Africafoot has also reported that FC Porto have joined the list of European clubs monitoring the right-back.

Maamar remains under contract with Anderlecht, known as the Mauves, until June 2028. Transfermarkt currently estimates his value at 2.5m euros, although that figure could increase if more clubs pursue him.

Morocco will soon begin their qualification campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations with a match against Gabon.
