Lyon prospect Yacine Chaib poised for three-year move to MC Alger

Yacine Chaib is reportedly set to join MC Alger after the club won the race for the Olympique Lyonnais academy graduate, beating local rivals USM Alger to the signature of the Algeria Under-23 international.

According to journalist Kadi Nazim, the 21-year-old left-back has agreed a three-year contract with MC Alger. The move would bring an end to several days of competition between the two major clubs from Algiers, both of whom had shown an interest in the player.

USM Alger and MC Alger had each recently contacted Olympique Lyonnais to establish the conditions for a possible deal. MC Alger is now understood to have made the stronger impression and is preparing to secure a young player regarded as having considerable potential.

Chaib completed most of his development within the Olympique Lyonnais academy, one of the most highly regarded youth systems in French football. His background there was a significant attraction for both Algerian clubs as they assessed the possibility of recruiting him.

A left-back by trade, Chaib is considered a modern defender who can provide energy and width on his flank while also contributing to the build-up. His technical education in Lyon’s academy has helped shape a profile that appeals to clubs looking for a player capable of influencing both phases of the game.

The proposed move would also represent another step in Chaib’s progress with Algeria. He was recently called up by Rafik Saifi to the Algeria Under-23 squad, making him one of a group of young dual-national players the Federation Algerienne de Football (FAF) is seeking to introduce gradually across its different age-group teams.

For Chaib, a transfer to MC Alger would offer the opportunity to experience top-level professional football sooner and move closer to the senior international set-up. MC Alger’s ambitions and status as one of the leading clubs in the Algerian championship could give him a greater level of responsibility than he would have been likely to receive immediately at Olympique Lyonnais.

The club, known as the Doyen, has been particularly active and ambitious in the transfer market. Its interest in Chaib reflects a desire to strengthen its squad with emerging talent while also adding a player with experience of a prominent European academy.

The reported agreement would see Chaib wear the MC Alger colours for the next three seasons, although the transfer remains presented as an expected outcome rather than an officially completed deal.

After a short but closely watched contest between the two Algiers clubs, MC Alger appears to have emerged victorious in the race for the young defender. USM Alger had also positioned itself strongly, but MC Alger is now expected to complete the signing of the Olympique Lyonnais-trained player.
