OFFICIAL: Clinton Njie Joins Tottenham from Lyon in €14M Deal
Olympique Lyonnais has officially confirmed the transfer of Cameroonian forward Clinton Njie to Tottenham Hotspur. The deal, which had been in the works for several weeks, was finalized after extended negotiations between Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.
Speaking to French radio station RMC, Aulas outlined the club’s strategy and the process behind the deal:
“I’ve spoken to Daniel Levy on the phone many times. We’ve prioritized recruiting our new players. We didn’t need a financial boost to allow us to make the signings. We’re finishing the signings and then we’ll take the positions,” said the OL president.
Aulas added that Tottenham had shown a strong desire to land Njie:
“Daniel Levy absolutely wants Clinton. We’re close to an agreement… I thank Daniel Levy for making a coherent offer.”
The agreement will bring in €14 million for Lyon, with an additional €3 million in performance-based bonuses.
Njie, 21, enjoyed a breakout season with Lyon in Ligue 1, showcasing his pace, direct style, and eye for goal, which caught the attention of several European clubs. Tottenham moved swiftly to secure the Cameroon international, who becomes one of the key signings in their attacking setup.
This move marks a significant step in Njie’s career, as he now joins the Premier League and looks to make his mark under Mauricio Pochettino at White Hart Lane. Spurs will hope that Njie’s speed and energy can bolster their forward line alongside the likes of Harry Kane.
