French Ligue 1 outfit Olympique Lyon are now in a good position to negotiate a better transfer deal for French-Algerian youngster Rayan Cherki after sealing a mega sponsorship agreement.
On Friday, April 25, the French club announced a lucrative €100 million deal with airline sponsor Emirates, extending their partnership until the summer of 2030.
This timely injection of funds comes just weeks after concerns that the club’s fragile financial standing could force a cut-price sale of Cherki, who has an Estimated Transfer Value of €37.5 million.
Previously, there were speculations that Manchester United might exploit Lyon’s financial vulnerability to snap up the talented Rayan Cherki for as little as €20-25 million.
Although the in-form attacker remains available for transfer and is still expected to move this summer, Lyon’s improved financial health gives the club the leverage to hold out for a fee closer to his true worth.
Despite the latest development, clubs are expected to line up for the signature of Rayan Cherki in the summer transfer window.
Some clubs will be willing to pay over 50 million euros for his signature.
