Clinton Njie Determined to Stay at Olympique Lyonnais Despite Transfer Rumors
Clinton Njie has made it clear that he intends to stay at Olympique Lyonnais for the upcoming season, despite growing interest from top English clubs. Reports have linked the Cameroonian international with a €10 million offer from Tottenham Hotspur, and more recently, Arsenal has also reportedly entered the race for his signature. However, the 22-year-old forward is not letting the speculation distract him.
In an interview with Le Dauphiné Libéré, Njie confirmed that he had met with the club’s management to discuss a possible salary increase, though he stressed that his focus is on continuing his career at Lyon. “I met with the management to renegotiate my salary. Perhaps the club will ask me to leave if they receive an interesting offer, but my intention is to stay at OL this season,” said Njie, who enjoyed a standout campaign last year, scoring 7 goals and providing 7 assists in 15 Ligue 1 starts.
Lyon’s president, Jean-Michel Aulas, also reaffirmed the club’s commitment to keeping Njie, stating that they would not entertain offers for the forward unless it meets their expectations. “We will not only do what is necessary to keep them, but we will also refuse all the offers that come our way,” Aulas declared.
It appears that both Njie and Lyon are keen to find a middle ground on the player’s salary, and it’s likely that the Cameroon international will remain at the club for the upcoming season, despite the interest from Premier League clubs.
