Lyon’s Henri Bedimo Shows Understanding After Controversial Non-Penalty Call vs Bastia
During Lyon’s Ligue 1 clash against Bastia on Matchday 14, a possible penalty incident involving Cameroonian defender Henri Bedimo sparked debate.
After a pass from Lacazette, Bedimo was the first to the ball but pushed it forward slightly before being fouled late and roughly by Bastia’s Drissa Diakité. Despite being close to the play, referee Bastien chose not to award a penalty and allowed play to continue.
While Olympique Lyonnais protested the decision, Bedimo himself took a more measured stance. Speaking to Le Progrès, he said:
“If I were the referee, I wouldn’t have whistled either. Because the ball hit me after I pushed it. Honestly, I’m not crying scandal, but if the images show a penalty, I put myself in the referee’s shoes. Whistling would have been difficult, I understand that.”
However, Lyon’s president did not hold back, labeling the incident a “forgotten penalty” in his post-match comments, signaling some frustration from the club’s leadership despite the player’s calm approach.
