BAKARY KONÉ’S TRANSFER TO FULHAM COLLAPSES AT THE LAST MINUTE
A tough break for Bakary Koné. The Burkinabe international defender, currently out of favor at Olympique Lyonnais, saw a potential move fall through just hours before the close of the transfer window.
Koné was reportedly on the verge of joining Fulham, with a €2 million deal nearly finalized. However, according to L’Équipe, the English Championship side pulled out at the last moment and instead turned their attention to Michael Mancienne from Nottingham Forest. In a surprising twist, Fulham are said to have offered €6 million for Mancienne—three times Koné’s fee.
For Koné, who had been hoping for a new challenge and more playing time away from Lyon, it’s a frustrating turn of events. With the transfer window now closed, the Stallion must remain at Lyon—at least until January—despite being outside of coach Hubert Fournier’s plans.
A stroke of bad luck that leaves the defender in limbo.
