Lynford Sackey: Anglo-Ghanaian right-back joins Bracknell on free transfer from Yateley United
Bracknell have signed England-Ghana right-back Lynford Sackey from Yateley United on a free transfer. The 23-year-old defender completes the move ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, joining the club after a short spell with the Yateley side.
Sackey, who is right-footed and stands at 1.78m, arrives with a background in professional academies and youth football. He came through Reading’s youth system, progressing from the youth ranks to their U18 and U23 sides before moving to Bolton’s B team in 2022, also on a free transfer.
During his time in Reading’s academy, Sackey gained regular minutes at youth level, making 36 appearances in the U18 Premier League and featuring in both the FA Youth Cup and Premier League 2. He also collected first-team experience with two outings in the EFL Cup, adding senior competitive exposure early in his career.
Since leaving Bolton, Sackey has built up further experience in non-league and lower-tier football, featuring for Risborough, FC Sholing, Berkhamsted, Holyport, Binfield, Knaphill and then Yateley United in a series of permanent moves, all on free transfers.
Sackey’s arrival adds a specialist right-back option to Bracknell’s defensive line, with the move marking his latest step after a series of short-term stints across the English pyramid.
