Lyle Foster set for MLS move as Houston Dynamo close in on Burnley loan

Lyle Foster is reportedly close to joining Major League Soccer side Houston Dynamo on loan from Burnley, in a move that could see the South Africa international leave England after three-and-a-half years.

According to The Athletic, the two clubs are finalising an agreement for Foster to move to Houston until next summer. The proposed deal is understood to include an option for the Dynamo to sign the forward permanently for $7m, approximately R112m.

Foster has already completed his medical, with the transfer now dependent on the final details being settled between the clubs.

The reported move would end the 25-year-old’s spell with Burnley, who he joined in 2023. Foster made 24 Premier League appearances in his first season at Turf Moor, scoring five goals and supplying three assists.

He then played a part in Burnley’s promotion back to the top flight before making 26 Premier League appearances last season. The striker scored three goals and provided two assists in 1,372 minutes as Burnley were relegated.

Burnley will now compete in the Championship, while a switch to MLS would offer Foster a different challenge and the possibility of a more prominent role in a Houston Dynamo attack that has changed during the current transfer window.

Houston are enjoying a strong campaign and currently sit second in the Western Conference, with 39 points from 22 matches. Foster’s potential arrival would give them another attacking option as they continue their push near the top of the standings.

The South African has become an established member of the Bafana Bafana squad. He has scored 10 goals in 28 appearances for his country.

Foster began his senior career in Europe before joining Burnley in 2023, and his time with the English club has included both Premier League football and the promotion campaign that returned the team to the top division. His next move could therefore mark a new stage in his career, with Houston reportedly positioned to secure his services initially on a temporary basis.

The permanent option in the agreement would allow the Dynamo to make the transfer fully permanent for $7m if Foster impresses during his loan spell. For now, however, the clubs are still completing the arrangement, despite the player having undergone his medical.
