Luzenac Faces Another Setback as Ligue 2 Admission Denied by Professional Football League
Luzenac’s hopes of playing in Ligue 2 have suffered another blow after the Professional Football League (LFP) once again rejected the Ariège club’s admission on Wednesday, despite their strong sporting credentials. The decision raises questions about the club’s next steps and possible legal recourse.
According to reports from La Dépêche, Luzenac may appeal to the Administrative Court of Toulouse this Friday. This would mark the third time the club seeks judicial intervention to secure immediate entry into Ligue 2 and to request the suspension of the league’s fifth matchday scheduled for the weekend.
In its statement on Wednesday, the LFP acknowledged the difficult situation for players and coaches who earned promotion on the pitch but stressed that “the rules of professionalism are the same for all clubs.” The league’s board of directors maintained its stance that despite Luzenac’s favorable ruling by the DNCG earlier this month, the club would not be allowed to compete at the Ligue 2 level.
This decision also affected Senah Mango, a Togolese club, whose path to Ligue 2 was similarly blocked by the LFP board.
Luzenac’s leadership has expressed deep frustration with the persistent rejection. Jérôme Ducros, president of the club, told RMC, “After the hammer blow we have just received, we do not understand this relentlessness. Or we understand that Mr. Thiriez does not want us. He is trying to justify certain things. But we will continue the fight and we will go to the end to prevail our promotion to Ligue 2. It’s a scandal! We have done the job. They do everything to disgust us but that is to misunderstand the Ariégeois. We will not stop there.”
With the club determined to push forward legally, attention now turns to the court’s upcoming hearing and whether Luzenac will finally gain the right to compete at the professional level. The outcome could have significant implications not only for the club but also for the integrity of French football’s promotion and relegation system.
The situation remains fluid, and football fans across the country await the resolution of this saga with keen interest.
