Luther Singh named to AEL Limassol captaincy team for 2026/27 season

South African forward Luther Singh has been named one of AEL Limassol’s captains for the 2026/27 season, after being included among the club’s three vice-captains.

The Cyprus League campaign began this past weekend, and AEL Limassol made a winning start under manager Hugo Martins by beating Anorthosis 2-0.

Davor Zdravkovski was appointed the club’s first captain last week as Martins’ side completed its preparations for the new campaign. AEL Limassol then confirmed its wider leadership group, with Julious Szoke named first vice-captain, followed by Singh and Ivan Milosavljevic.

The appointment gives Singh a formal leadership role at a club where he has become an important figure since arriving at the beginning of the 2024/25 season.

The 28-year-old has made 65 appearances for AEL Limassol across his two campaigns with the club. During that time, he has scored 11 goals and provided 22 assists.

Singh’s inclusion in the captaincy group comes as AEL Limassol begin another Cyprus League campaign with an early victory already secured. Their 2-0 win over Anorthosis provided Martins’ team with three points in the opening round and established a positive start to the season.

Zdravkovski will lead the group as first captain, while Szoke, Singh and Milosavljevic will support him as vice-captains. The structure places Singh among the senior figures required to help represent the squad during the 2026/27 campaign.

Although the club’s announcement confirms his position as the second-listed vice-captain, Singh’s selection reflects the status he has built since joining AEL Limassol. His record of 65 appearances, 11 goals and 22 assists makes him one of the team’s most experienced and productive players from the past two seasons.

For Singh, the new role adds responsibility at the start of a season in which AEL Limassol have already taken an important first step. The club’s opening victory against Anorthosis means its newly appointed leadership team begins the campaign with a positive result.
