Luther Singh earns Bafana Bafana recall after strong AEL Limassol form

Luther Singh has been included in the final 30-man Bafana Bafana squad, marking his return to the national team after a prolonged absence.

The Cyprus-based forward was first named in the 35-player preliminary squad announced by Pitso Mosimane shortly after his reappointment a few weeks ago. He subsequently retained his place when the returning coach confirmed the final selection.

Singh’s recall follows an impressive 2025/26 campaign with AEL Limassol, for whom he has scored nine goals. He has remained the club’s main attacking option even after Thapelo Maseko joined on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns.

His representative, Warren Swartz of ProAthlete Management, said the agency was pleased to see Singh rewarded for his form and consistency.

“We are extremely grateful and pleased to see Luther receive this national team call-up. We have been monitoring the situation closely for some time, and everyone around Luther is incredibly happy to see him earn his return to the national team,” Swartz told KickOff.

“He has continued to work hard, remain focused and believe in himself, and this call-up is a positive recognition of that commitment. As his representatives, we are proud of him and look forward to seeing him make the most of this opportunity,” he added.

Singh was regarded as one of the young players with significant potential when Hugo Broos first took charge of Bafana Bafana in May 2021. However, after about a year, the Soweto-born striker fell out of the national-team picture and did not return, despite continuing to play for Copenhagen at the time.

The 29-year-old had previously been a prominent figure in South Africa’s junior national teams. His professional career began with Swedish club GAIS, but he is yet to play for a local club.

Singh’s latest selection gives him an opportunity to re-establish himself at international level after building a strong position at AEL Limassol. His management team believes the call-up reflects the work he has put in during his time away from the national team.
