Lukaku reflects on Napoli’s second place finish and Conte relationship
Napoli striker Romelu Lukaku finished second in Serie A, securing Champions League qualification after targeting a top-four spot.
The Belgian forward, who has one year left on his Napoli contract, credits Inter for winning the Scudetto fairly while expressing happiness for Roma’s Champions League qualification.
Speaking to Sky Sport, Lukaku said: “For us at Napoli, it was very important to finish the season in the top four, and in the end, we finished second. We wanted to compete for the Scudetto, and credit to Inter, who were stronger and deserved the title.”
Regarding his future, Lukaku stated: “I still have a year left on my contract with Napoli and I’m happy there, they gave me the opportunity to show that I wasn’t dead.” He emphasized his gratitude toward coach Antonio Conte and the club for the trust shown.
On his relationship with Conte, Lukaku confirmed nothing changed: “No, everything is as it was before. We spoke before I returned to Belgium, and I apologized to him.” He explained Conte understood his physical struggles and acknowledged Lukaku wasn’t at his previous level. Lukaku added: “I will always thank him, he is the one who created the player I am today.”
