Lukaku clears the air with Napoli after crunch talks over absence
Romelu Lukaku has moved to resolve tensions with Napoli after holding what sources describe as productive, face-to-face talks in Naples, paving the way for a clearer path in his recovery from injury.
The Belgium international of Congolese heritage travelled back to Italy in recent days to address concerns that had emerged during his rehabilitation period.
Reports last month indicated the striker risked disciplinary measures after allegedly failing to comply with a request to report to the club’s training base. That situation now appears to have been defused following direct discussions involving Lukaku, his representative Federico Pastorello, and Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna.
Those present at the meeting characterised the exchange as calm and constructive, with both sides aligned on restoring clarity and maintaining a professional working relationship. The outcome is understood to be an amicable resolution, with the matter effectively put to rest.
Lukaku has endured a disrupted campaign, with a persistent hamstring issue severely limiting his involvement.
The 32-year-old has made just seven appearances this season, with his last outing coming off the bench in a narrow win against Torino in early March.
Since then, he has remained in Belgium to continue his recovery following a setback that prolonged his absence from the club’s facilities.
During the discussions, Lukaku is said to have provided a detailed update on his rehabilitation progress, offering reassurance over his physical condition and commitment to returning to action.
Napoli, in turn, appear satisfied with the forward’s recovery trajectory and his willingness to engage directly to resolve outstanding concerns.
There is cautious optimism within the club that Lukaku could be available for selection within the next fortnight, provided his rehabilitation continues without further complications.
