Luka Modric has told Real Madrid supporters there is no reason to worry despite the club trailing Barcelona by six points at the start of the season.
The former Real Madrid midfielder, now a Milan player, said the Spanish club remained capable of competing for every major honour under their new manager.
Speaking to Teledeporte before Spain’s meeting with Croatia, Modric said: “It is the beginning of the season, and I believe Real Madrid, with a new manager, have a top-level squad and are ready to compete for all the trophies, as they always do.”
The Croatia international, who is regarded as a Real Madrid legend, added: “There is no need to panic or think that everything is over simply because Barcelona are six points ahead.”
Modric remains confident that Real Madrid can close the gap and challenge for success this season.
“With the squad, the players and the manager they have, Real Madrid can turn things around and achieve a successful season,” he said.
