Luis Enrique welcomes Ferran Torres as Paris Saint-Germain add Spain forward

Luis Enrique says Paris Saint-Germain have strengthened their squad by signing Ferran Torres, praising the Spain international’s ability to operate in every attacking position.

Paris Saint-Germain officially announced the arrival of Torres on Saturday morning, completing a move from Barcelona for a fee of about €50m. The 65-cap Spain forward has joined as the French club look to replace Goncalo Ramos, who moved to Milan in July.

Torres had been on Paris Saint-Germain’s radar for some time, and the club ultimately decided to take advantage of the opportunity to bring him to France. Luis Enrique said the transfer represented an important addition to his attacking options.

Speaking at his news conference on the eve of Paris Saint-Germain’s meeting with Lens in the French Champions Cup, the manager welcomed the signing and said the club had been alert to the possibility of improving its squad.

“I’m happy with his arrival. I think we now have a better team, because we are always looking for opportunities to strengthen the squad,” Luis Enrique said, according to Foot Mercato.

The former Barcelona manager highlighted Torres’ international experience and tactical flexibility as key reasons why he should fit quickly into the Paris Saint-Germain team.

“He is an international player, and we know him very well. He also adapts perfectly because he can play in every position. With his mentality, I think it is important to have this type of player,” he added.

Luis Enrique also confirmed that he and Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi were continuing to assess the transfer market, with further improvements to the squad still under consideration.

“We continue to work with the president and Luis Campos in the transfer market, and we are looking for ways to improve the team,” he said.

Torres completed his first training session with his new team-mates on Saturday morning. However, he is not expected to be included in the Paris Saint-Germain squad for Sunday’s match against Lens in the French Champions Cup.

Luis Enrique declined to reveal his starting line-up for the game, with Paris Saint-Germain seeking another trophy only days after beating Aston Villa 2-1 to win the European Super Cup.

The manager was asked whether he planned to make changes to the side for the match. Rather than offer any clues to Lens, he responded with a joke about consulting his wife before deciding who would play.

“Will I make changes tomorrow? Do you want me to give the opponent some clues? I don’t know, I have to talk to my wife to find out who will play,” he said.

Torres’ arrival gives Luis Enrique another established Spain international to work with, while his ability to play across the attack provides the manager with additional options as Paris Saint-Germain continue their pursuit of more silverware.
