Luis Enrique praises Maghnes Akliouche after PSG debut

Maghnes Akliouche made an immediate impression on his Paris Saint-Germain debut, starting in Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup final against Aston Villa.

The French attacking midfielder played the opening 45 minutes before making way for Ousmane Dembele at half-time.

Although Akliouche was not yet at his best physically, Luis Enrique trusted him to begin the match and was delighted with the response. The PSG coach revealed that the newcomer was surprised to see his name in the starting lineup, but handled the occasion with confidence and freedom.

“Ah, it was his first match and I think he was surprised when he saw that he was among the players starting the game,” Enrique explained.

The Spaniard had already warned Akliouche that he would be substituted at the interval. Nevertheless, the midfielder used his time on the pitch to showcase the qualities that had made him stand out at Monaco.

“For me, he was sensational. He played as I had seen him play with his previous team, Monaco,” Enrique said.

“He showed his quality, he showed his personality, and I am very happy for him. He has won a European trophy.”

Akliouche’s composed introduction gives PSG another creative option and offers an encouraging sign as he adapts to life at the European champions.
