Luis de la Fuente commits to Spain until 2032 after World Cup triumph

Luis de la Fuente has extended his contract as Spain manager until 2032, the Spanish Football Federation has announced.

De la Fuente’s previous agreement with La Roja was due to expire in 2028. The federation said its board had unanimously approved the new deal at a meeting of its executive committee, chaired by Rafael Louzan.

The renewal follows Spain’s victory at the 2026 World Cup and keeps De la Fuente in charge through the country’s next major international commitments. His contract covers the 2028 and 2032 European Championships, as well as the 2030 World Cup, which will be hosted jointly by Spain, Portugal and Morocco.

Rafael Louzan said the federation wanted to build a project based on stability and trust. He added that the decision reflected its confidence in De la Fuente and the sporting programme he is leading, particularly with important tournaments ahead.

De la Fuente has worked across Spain’s youth national teams, progressing from the under-18 side to the senior squad. He has been in charge of the first team since the summer of 2021.

During his time as manager, Spain have played 50 matches, recording 40 victories, seven draws and three defeats.

De la Fuente has led the team to one UEFA Nations League title, one European Championship and one World Cup. Spain won the 2026 World Cup for the second time in the history of La Roja, with the tournament held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

They beat Argentina 1-0 in the final.
