Lugazi sign Uganda winger Jeremy Matata from Calvary

Uganda winger Jeremy Matata has joined Lugazi from Calvary on a free transfer, completing his move to the Uganda Premier League club.

The 24-year-old right winger completed the switch on 3 August 2026 and has signed a contract with Lugazi until 30 June 2028. Matata moves to the club after a short spell with Calvary, having joined them from Kator FC in January 2026.

Matata made 45 appearances in the Uganda Premier League, producing two assists across 2,811 minutes. He arrives at Lugazi with a market value of €75,000 and becomes part of a squad competing in Uganda’s top flight.

His move to Calvary was also completed as a free transfer, following his departure from Kator FC. Matata had joined Kator from Mbale Heroes in July 2025, while his time with Mbale Heroes began after leaving Busoga United in September 2024.

The move to Lugazi continues a period of regular movement between Ugandan clubs for Matata, with the winger completing four transfers since September 2024. Each of those switches, including his latest move, was made without a transfer fee.

Matata’s arrival gives Lugazi another attacking option on the right side as the club prepares for the new campaign. He will wear the number seven shirt for his new side.

The transfer was completed on 3 August, with Matata leaving Calvary to join Lugazi on a free transfer. His contract with Lugazi runs until 30 June 2028.
