Lugazi bolster attack with Uganda centre-forward Dickson Mataama

Uganda centre-forward Dickson Mataama has joined Lugazi from fellow Uganda Premier League club BUL Jinja, adding a 28-year-old striker to the club’s squad.

Mataama completed the move on 27 August 2026 after leaving BUL Jinja, where he had played since July 2024. His transfer to BUL came from Jinja North United on a free transfer, meaning the switch to Lugazi represents another move between clubs from the same footballing region.

Born in Jinja on 22 May 1998, Mataama stands at 1.80m and operates primarily through the middle of the attack. His arrival gives Lugazi a forward with experience of Uganda’s top flight and a recent record of regular involvement in league football.

Mataama has made 18 Uganda Premier League appearances, scoring two goals and providing one assist. He played 976 minutes in those matches, averaging a goal every 488 minutes.

The forward’s previous spell at BUL Jinja followed his time with Jinja North United, where he had begun his recent senior career before making the move in 2024. He now remains in the Uganda Premier League as part of Lugazi’s attacking group.

For Lugazi, the signing adds another established option in the centre-forward position ahead of the 2026-27 campaign. Mataama’s experience at the level, combined with his familiarity with Ugandan league football, will form the main context around his move to the club.

The deal also marks a continuation of Mataama’s career in Uganda, with the player having represented clubs based in and around Jinja before switching to Lugazi. His move keeps him in the country’s top division while taking him to a new team for the first time since his transfer to BUL.

Lugazi have now secured Mataama’s services, with the Uganda international joining the club from BUL Jinja on 27 August 2026.
