Ludogorets reappoint treble-winning manager Igor Jovicevic

Bulgarian champions Ludogorets have appointed Igor Jovicevic as their new manager, bringing back the Croatian coach less than a year after he left the club.

Jovicevic will work with Egypt defender Hossam Abdel Meguid at Ludogorets, succeeding Thomas Reis, who departed last week to take charge of Trabzonspor, where he is coaching Mohamed Salah.

The 51-year-old returns to Ludogorets after leaving in the summer of 2025, having guided the club to a domestic treble of the league title, Bulgarian Cup and Bulgarian Super Cup.

He will oversee his first training session on 24 September, according to the club’s official website. Jovicevic will be joined by some of the members of the coaching staff who worked with him during his previous spell.

Ludogorets will present the Croatian to the media at a news conference on Saturday.

Jovicevic first took charge of the club in autumn 2024 and delivered the third treble in Ludogorets’ history within 10 months. The previous trebles were achieved in 2012 and 2014.

During his time in charge, the Eagles won the Bulgarian league for a record 14th successive season, as well as the Bulgarian Cup and the Bulgarian Super Cup.

He managed Ludogorets in 42 matches across all competitions during his only season at the club, recording 25 victories, 11 draws and six defeats.

Following his departure, Jovicevic managed Polish side Widzew Łodz.

Reis left Ludogorets a week ago to become manager of Trabzonspor. He made an immediate impact in Turkey, leading his new side to a 4-0 victory over Galatasaray on Saturday.
