Louhans-Cuiseaux Opt Against Signing Mohamed Sall After Trial Period
Mauritanian-born defender Mohamed Sall will not be signing with French lower-division side Louhans-Cuiseaux, following a trial period with the club.
According to local outlet Le Journal de Saône-et-Loire (JSL), the club’s technical staff, led by head coach Mickaël Pontal, has decided that Sall does not fit the profile they are currently seeking to strengthen their squad.
Sall, who is the younger brother of Saint-Étienne professional player Mustapha Bayal Sall, had spent time training with Louhans last week in a bid to secure a contract. However, despite his international experience, the club ultimately chose not to offer him a deal.
Louhans-Cuiseaux, who compete in the Championnat National 3 (fifth tier of French football), are in the process of shaping their squad for the ongoing season. Coach Pontal is reportedly seeking reinforcements in specific areas, and Sall’s style or position did not match the club’s current tactical needs.
While Sall’s future remains uncertain, Louhans face more immediate concerns on the pitch. The club will be without two key players for their upcoming Coupe de France fixture against Mervans, a lower-league district side.
Midfielder N’Daw is sidelined with a thigh strain, while forward Bayo is nursing a knee sprain. Bayo, in particular, is expected to remain out of action for at least another week, further limiting the team’s attacking options.
Despite the absentees, Louhans will be expected to progress past Mervans, but squad depth remains a concern as the club looks to balance its league campaign with the demands of the national cup competition.
