LOSC: Boubakary Soumaré’s exclusion comes to an end
Boubakary Soumaré is set to return to action with LOSC Lille after being sidelined following his refusal to join Newcastle United during the last winter transfer window. Lille’s coach, Christophe Galtier, confirmed the young midfielder’s imminent reintegration into the squad, signaling a resolution to the recent dispute.
“He will be in my squad. I am very happy for the president, the club, and the player that everyone was able to talk and discuss things so that everyone can thrive,” Galtier stated in a press conference, highlighting that communication had helped mend relations between the player and the club.
The controversy began when Soumaré, 20, declined Newcastle’s €40 million offer during the winter transfer period, prompting Lille to sideline him temporarily. Club president Gérard Lopez addressed the situation on RTL radio, attributing the conflict to miscommunication and emphasizing Soumaré’s value. “There was a situation that dated back to October-November, but which was perhaps due to poor communication. He’s a player we like a lot and who, for me, is one of the best young players in Europe. So, we wanted to keep him with us,” Lopez explained.
Soumaré’s absence from the squad had drawn attention, but his return now allows Lille to reintegrate one of their most promising talents. The midfielder’s technical ability, composure, and versatility in the center of the park are seen as crucial to the team’s ambitions in Ligue 1.
With the dispute resolved, Soumaré can refocus on his development and contribute fully to Lille’s campaign. Both the club and the player appear eager to move forward, making this a timely reconciliation that benefits all parties involved.
