Jordan Ayew Shines for Lorient, Reflects Fondly on Marseille Departure
By BBC Sport – Football
Jordan Ayew continued his fine form for FC Lorient with a crucial equaliser against former club Olympique de Marseille on Tuesday evening, underlining the success of his summer move in search of regular playing time.
The Ghanaian striker, who left Marseille at the start of the season, has quickly become a key figure at Lorient. Speaking after the 1–1 draw, Ayew expressed satisfaction with his decision to leave the Stade Vélodrome.
“It’s clear that things are going very well,” said the 23-year-old. “As I said, that’s what I was looking for. Today, people have a lot of trust in me here. I feel the confidence. As long as there is trust from the management, nothing can stop me.”
Ayew’s composed penalty against OM not only earned Lorient a valuable point but also served as a personal milestone against the club where he began his professional career. Despite the circumstances surrounding his exit, the striker insists there is no lingering resentment.
“OM is a club that has given me everything,” he said. “Today I’m at Lorient. But it’s always nice to see your former teammates again. It’s still family. Even if I left the club, I will always remain a supporter.”
Ayew’s transition from a squad player at Marseille to a regular starter at Lorient appears to be paying off. His contributions have been vital in Lorient’s campaign as they aim to stay clear of the relegation zone.
As the Africa Cup of Nations approaches, the Ghana international’s resurgence comes at an opportune time — both for his club and his country. With more minutes under his belt and confidence growing, Ayew may yet have a pivotal role to play in the months ahead.
