Sporting Lisbon Close in on Vincent Aboubakar as Deadline Looms
Sporting Lisbon’s pursuit of Cameroonian striker Vincent Aboubakar has taken a decisive turn, with the Portuguese giants reportedly reaching an agreement with FC Lorient for the forward’s transfer. According to L’Équipe, Sporting officials traveled to Brittany to accelerate negotiations, which have now resulted in a deal between the clubs.
The final decision now rests with Aboubakar, who has until 12:00 GMT to give his response.
The 22-year-old striker is coming off a strong 2013–14 campaign with Lorient and made an immediate impact on the opening day of the current Ligue 1 season, scoring against AS Monaco. His performances have not gone unnoticed, attracting interest from several European clubs.
While Sporting are in pole position, they face late competition from Monaco, Wolfsburg, and Benfica — all reportedly monitoring the situation closely.
Aboubakar, an established Cameroon international, is seen as a major asset by Sporting, who are aiming to bolster their attacking options ahead of a demanding campaign both domestically and in Europe.
As the deadline nears, the spotlight is now firmly on Aboubakar, whose decision could shape the next chapter of his promising career.
